How to Use a Snow Day Calculator
A snow day calculator is a ZIP-based risk score for school, not a weather app and not a district announcement. Use it the night before so you can plan childcare. Confirm in the morning on the official channel.
Steps
- Open the Snow Day Calculator.
- Enter your ZIP, or city plus state. City-only is weaker because suburbs and downtown do not share bus routes.
- Pick school type: urban, suburban, rural, private, or college. Wrong type is the most common way to get a useless number.
- Read the 4 to 7 AM hourly snow and ice, not only the day total.
- If the threat is glaze, read ice vs snow. If the snow looks moderate in a city, read delay vs closure.
- Turn on the district text or app. That message is the only official yes or no.
What you should not do
- Do not treat 80% as a canceled day. It is a planning probability. How to read the percentage.
- Do not use a neighboring city’s page as your answer. Open your metro, then still type your ZIP.
- Do not refresh at 2 AM hoping the board posted. Most calls land between 5 and 7 AM. Announcement times.
